Attendance

Regular attendance is incredibly important to ensure a student’s growth in any learning environment. This is especially true is dance. Students are expected to be present for every class. Students should be on time and ready to dance at the start of the class. If a student is unable to participate in their dance class, they should notify their teacher, or the company director, prior to the class. Individual classes that are missed can be made up but will not be refunded or credited against other classes. We allow five make-up classes per school year term and one make-up class for our summer season.

For private lessons, a make-up class can be scheduled if the student’s teacher and company director are given at least two weeks’ notice. The make-up class date will depend on the teacher’s availability and is not guaranteed. If a child is seriously injured or the family moves out of the state, please contact the Director, Melissa Curling, to discuss a refund for the classes that will be missed.

In the event of a weather cancellation or unexpected teacher absence where a substitute cannot be found, the specific class will be rescheduled by the teacher.

Tuition Payments

A CREDIT CARD IS REQUIRED FOR ALL REGISTRATIONS. If you’d prefer to pay tuition by cash or check, payment must be made before it’s due date. If payment is not received by the payment due date, the credit card on file will be charged for the tuition due. We recommend paying by credit card to simplify your life and avoid late charges. Our school year term tuition is due on the 15th of each month. Our summer class and camp tuition is due in full on registration. A $15 late fee will be charged and enforced on all accounts past due, including accounts that are automatically charged. District Dance accepts VISA, Master Card, cash and check. Credit card payments incur an additional 3% administrative fee.

Refund Policy

There are no refunds for missed classes. However, if a child is seriously injured or the family moves out of the state, please contact the Director, Melissa Curling, to discuss a refund for the classes that will be missed. Timely notice is expected and appreciated.

In the event of a weather cancellation or unexpected teacher absence where a substitute cannot be found, the specific class will be rescheduled by the teacher. Low enrollment classes may be canceled and a refund will be issued.

Excessive Absences: Students with excessive class absences may be pulled from the recital dance with no refund. This is at the teacher’s and director’s discretion.

Make-up Classes: There are no refunds for missed classes. However, missed classes can be made up anytime before May 1st in an age appropriate class – even if it’s a different style than what the student is taking. All make-up classes must be scheduled through the front office. A maximum of 4 make-ups are allowed during our school year term. A maximum of 1 make-up class is allowed during our summer term.

Performance Fees

District Dance produces multiple performances every year. All dancers enrolled in our academic year program are invited to join us onstage for all performances. We host our annual Winter Revue in January. This performance is informal and has an emphasis on fun. After an exciting year of preparation, our dancers also have the opportunity to perform in our annual June Recital. This show features more elaborate costumes, make-up, hair design, professional stage lighting, and is a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Winter Revue Participation Fee: $60 (paid in October of that dance year) – includes 1 costume. Additional classes require additional costume fees ($35 per class).

June Recital Participation Fee: $165 (paid in February of that dance year) – includes 1 costume. Additional classes require additional costume fees ($85 per class).

NOTICE REQUIRED: Recital Fees are due with February tuition. If your child is not able to participate in our end of year recital, the dancer’s parent/guardian must notify us in writing (see our NOTICE policy below) BEFORE February 15th so you are not charged for the recital fees.

All NOTICE(S) must be in writing and mailed to District Dance Co. by registered or certified mail to 18012 Mateny Road, Germantown, MD 20874, or can be brought in person to 18012 Mateny Road, Germantown, MD 20874. Studio Etiquette

A dance studio is a classroom. Students are expected to treat it as such. Each student deserves an open environment to reach their full potential. A student’s full attention and effort is expected in every class.

The only people allowed in the dance studio are students, teachers, and teaching assistants. Please do not open the studio door. The teacher will open the door when class is complete or class is ready to begin. Every studio has a large viewing window so parents can see what is happening in class.

No gum, food, or drink (with the exception of water bottles) is allowed into the studios.

Dress Code

District Dance has a strict dress code. This is important for teaching purposes in order to see body lines and body placement. Hair should be pulled back, completely out of the students face. No street shoes are allowed in the dance studio. For a complete listing of acceptable dance attire, please refer to our dress code page.

Class Observation

In order to ensure full student attention, no parents or guardians are permitted in the dance studios. Each season, we schedule specific weeks where parents are invited to observe class and see the student’s progress. These weeks will be listed on our studio calendar.
