Kristen Barnett is a 2009 graduate of Magruder High School where she was a member of the state champion Magruder Liberty Belles Pom Squad. While attending Magruder, Kristen was also a varsity cheerleader. Miss Kristen is currently attending Montgomery College where she is studying to major in Elementary Education and Special Education.
Miss Kristen grew up in Olney, Maryland and began dancing when she was 3 years old. She has studied all types of dance including tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern and lyrical. She has attended several dance workshops with Dance Masters of America, JUMP, Boogie Bots Crew, and Rhee Gold’s Dance Studio Life Seminar. While growing up, Miss Kristen was a member of the Elite Dance Company and competed in several group and solo competitions winning several awards. She graduated from dance at the Edna Lee Dance Studio in Glen Burnie, Maryland. In 2007, Kristen won the title “Miss Teen Dance”. In 2008, Kristen received the Zee Brown Ahearn Scholarship with Dance Master’s Chapter 17. This scholarship allowed Kristen to attend Chapter 17’s Student Honors Intensive Program at the University of Buffalo in New York. Kristen has enjoyed taking several master classes with Ashley Canterna, Jamile McGee, Nick Lazzarini, Gregg Russell, Joe Tremaine, Rennie Gold, Rhee Gold, Derrick Yanford, Joe Giacobe, Rosemarie Boyden, Kathy Kozul, Tom Rolabate and many others.
Kristen’s feels that dance is the truest way to outwardly express your inward feelings. She dances because of her love of dance and the freedom she feels when dancing. Kristen is excited to take on numerous roles with District Dance Co. including Dance Instructor and Teaching Assistant.
